Sessions
A programme will typically run for a period of 6-8 weeks with 10-15 children accompanied by a parent. These sessions involve practical hand-on activities which aims to build up a participant’s skills, abilities and confidence week by week. The sessions are targeted at children aged walking to 4 years old.
Sessions run for 2 hours and a snack is provided before the start or at the end of a session.
These sessions run in the mornings from 10:00am-12:00pm ( days will be specified on the event bookings)
All children are accompanied by the parent/care giver.
All sessions run by a qualified forest school leader and an assistant or volunteer. The Forest School leader holds an enhanced DBS and is a qualified first aider.
A Typical Forest Day
These sessions run on Monday mornings.
Each session begins around the fire circle, where we talk through the safety rules for working outdoors and about respecting each other.
For every session we have a session plan which includes a variety of activities linked to the topic as well as our regular activities these include a mud kitchen, gutter runs and fairy garden.
Topics may include a seasonal change, a favourite book, or a celebration. The children move around a variety of activities throughout the session.
Finally, the group will return to the fire circle once they are called back by …. 1,2,3 where are you. The fire will the be lit and a snack will be enjoyed by everyone.
Stay & Play Sessions
We offer a more causal Forest school stay and play session. These sessions are a great way to introduce children to forest school. The children get to play and explore the nature environment accompanied by their parents. These sessions typically last an hour and a half on Friday mornings.
Home Ed
Rewilding Forest School offers a Home Ed group on Thursday's for 3 hours at our woodland site behind Burview Hall, Walton. This group runs all year round in 6 to 8 week blocks. It is currently for children aged 4-9 years old and at the current time, we ask that children are accompanied by a parent/carer. It is run by a home educating parent who is trained as a forest school leader.
Pre-School and School Groups
We also work alongside Nurseries to offer Forest School sessions within our site in Walton upon Thames. These programmes can be tailored to the group of children that we are working with.
